The Guy Behind Muotka Lures

I’m Teemu, and I’ve been fishing for as long as I can remember. Fly fishing has been a passion of mine since childhood, and tying my own flies has always been part of it. For me, fishing is a way to slow down, clear my head and unwind.

As the rapids where I’ve always felt at home have become increasingly popular, I’ve found myself drawn more towards the quieter waters of lakes. That change also sparked an interest in making a different kind of lure.

On lakes, fishing for perch and pike, the lure I kept returning to was a spinner. I liked its simplicity: a rotating blade that creates flash and vibration.

After losing a favorite spinner between rocks, I started wondering where I could find a replacement. Then another thought crossed my mind: “What if I just made my own?”

Muotka Lures began with a simple idea: make fishing lures that I want to fish with myself. I design and make my spinners by hand in Finland, drawing on a lifelong interest in fishing and time spent by rivers and lakes.

Original Design, Refined over Time

The Muotka Lures Spinner took shape over months of work. I refined its fish-shaped body, balance and blade rotation together, making adjustments as I learned how each change affected the whole lure.

Modern tools help me work precisely, while finishing and assembly remain hands-on parts of the process. Small variations in color and fine detail are a natural part of making the lures individually.

Testing is part of how I develop and refine each model, from the first prototypes to later adjustments. I don’t swim-test every finished lure before sale.

Making these spinners brings together two things I enjoy: working with my hands and spending time on the water. I hope they become lures you enjoy fishing with, too.

Below are my personal favorites—the lures that always have a place in my tackle box.
